Jannik Sinner has claimed receiving year-end World No.1 is the most special trophy for him. Sinner has had a breakthrough year as he reached the top echelons of the sport. The Italian kickstarted his season by winning the Australian Open 2024, which was his first Slam.
The youngster had defeated Daniil Medvedev in the summit clash in Melbourne. Sinner then won the US Open after besting Taylor Fritz in the final and recently also won the Shanghai Masters by beating Novak Djokovic.
In the ongoing ATP Finals, Sinner has already got the better of Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur in straight sets.
Sinner said at the trophy presentation in Turin, “It’s a nice feeling. [It is] special sharing these kinds of moments here in Italy with the crowd.
“This would not be possible without all the people I have around and especially these kinds of people I want to keep forever, because it has been a journey from the beginning.”
Sinner credited his family for making all the sacrifices for him since the early stage of his career.
He added, “I just heard that my mum was crying, which is something very cute. Only they know from the early ages and stages, when I was around 13, how many sacrifices we made as a family. Now I’m standing here with maybe the most special trophy I have.”
The 23-year-old is ticking the right boxes and he will look to keep up the good show in the next season as well. Sinner will aim to win his maiden ATP finals title in front of his home crowd and then begin his new season on a high at the Australian Open 2025 by defending his title.
