Serena Williams’ former coach tells Carlos Alcaraz what he can change to improve his game ahead of the US Open

Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has advised Carlos Alcaraz to switch to platform stance while serving to further improve his game ahead of the all-important US Open. Alcaraz recently decided to not take part in the Toronto Open as he felt he needed a break after Wimbledon final loss against Jannik Sinner.

Macci, who is one of the best coaches in the game, said Alcaraz has every shot in the book and he can add further ammunition to his game if he switches his serving stance.

Rick Macci wrote on X, “He has every shot in the book. Most talented player on tour. The wildcard for Carlos is the serve. Time to dabble. He has a gun but if he switches to a platform stance with less moving parts no doubt will fire a better % of Spanish Darts.”

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have both used a platform stance, whereas other players like Nick Kyrgios, Sam Stosur, and Serena Williams, have used a pinpoint stance.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz registered a thumping Roland Garros win against Jannik Sinner after saving three championship points in the fourth set. But the World No.2 suffered a four-set loss against the Italian in the Wimbledon final. 

Alcaraz is known to give his 120% on the court and he has been ticking the right boxes. The Spaniard is building a great rivalry against Jannik Sinner. 

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are scheduled to next play at the Cincinnati Open in Ohio, United States. The ATP 1000 Masters event will run from 7 to 18 August, 2025.
